The Most Productive Digital Marketing Platform

Okay, Boomers. You win: Email is still digital marketing's top performer.

If you’ve read “Do Less. Sell More.,” you know that I remain a strong advocate for email being a non-negotiable component to your digital marketing mix.

But if you still need convincing, consider this article just released by Tilt, a thought-leadership platform for content creators: “8 Stats Show Email Subscribers Worth A Lot More Than Social Media Followers.”

Among the stats and arguments:

  • People spend 10 times more time paying attention to email than they do social networks.

  • You typically reach 4 times as many people with an email than you do a social media post.

  • Click-through rate of emails is 10 times that of social networks.

As I wrote in my book, there is no algorithm standing between you and your email subscribers. You are not at the whim of third-party tech conglomerates, who can change the rules of engagement at any moment, when you are engaged in email marketing.

Fans and followers on social media are nice. However, subscribers who share their email addresses are much, much nicer for your content business. These statistics reinforce that, indicating a single email subscriber is 10x more likely to connect with your content than a social media follower.

And The Tilt’s survey of content entrepreneurs has shown email to be a high-value vehicle as 75% of solo content entrepreneurs (supporting themselves with their content business) and 85% of entrepreneurs (supporting more than one with their content business) send email newsletters.

It’s not either/or. It’s both.

Pick one social media platform, and pair it with email. That is the modern formula for success:

1 + 1 = Everything
